Pamplona, Pamplona! No people under the sun ... Higinio Rodriguez Ormaechea

This short song that I present today I have not ever heard outside the circle family, so I guess we would have learned from our parents.
has no value as a letter or as music, but it is a fine chronicle of Pamplona that the first third of the twentieth century. This is the letter:

Pamplona, Pamplona! There is no people under the sun that is so pure and has both humor. You have, you have a foot-ball field, your typical closures and Swim Club. You always look good in all sports and has now become a large population.

Some words
In this short song called my attention the use of certain words, quite different from what we do today:
castizo The word ( in the sense of "typical", "genuine"), has been displaced in the popular speech of Pamplona for "chaste." Consider the dictionary San Fermin of Iturnet :

castes (Barbis) "Pamplona characterized human sub-race to live intensely Pamplona San Fermin festival and everything in general, suffer from skin itching and tingling moments in Pamplona. Feel chair in Pamplona issues. GENERAL entirely hereditary and incurable, must be born in the Old Town obligate Pamplona and beyond, tend to suffer a growing uneasiness. "

three words: foot-ball, club, sports . From the 60 was a laudable attempt to Castilianize many words from English and the word "Foot-ball" (after the failed attempt to football ) began to write as we do today and for "sport" rescued the old English word "sport." In my childhood was quite normal, playing football, the use of English words spoken in our own way: orsay ( offside : off-side), fau, goal, corner kick, shot, penalty ... Some have not heard.

You have a foot-ball field : Old San Juan
In February 1921 the Club Atlético Osasuna formalized the land lease, for after conditioning and close it, open the field of San Juan on 5/21/1922.
Campo San Juan. 1926-27 Season
was located between what is now Bayonne Avenue (north), Urdax Monastery (west), Avda Barañáin (south) and Usún Monastery (this). He remained until 1967.
Inside the circle, the San Juan field in 1929. Click to enlarge
the same frame in 2010. Click to enlarge
I can not help but remember those years in the Choir Santa María la Real (D. Javier Redín was the director), the course with Don José Toro 59-60 and 60-61 with Don José María Zandueta. We gave D. José María some students an entry every week to see Osasuna. I, if my memory serves me, I have come to see the Indauchu Osasuna put 11-1 and 9-0 at Basque (of course, with Osasuna in 2 meetings) and put us in a friendly 0-9 at Real Madrid Old San Juan, in the season 60-61.

Your typical
closures can not boast of having the bulls Pamplona older. Cuéllar in Segovia, jealously guards a document of 1215 which prohibits "any clergyman who plays dice games or attending fights, and be suspended if he did."
When the ditty says "typical" does not speak of universals. In those years the bulls in Pamplona 30 was barely known in Spain. A decisive factor for the universal closure was Ernest Hemingway (1899-1961), who between 1923 and 1931 failed only twice. Was an eyewitness to the second fatally gored known (the 1 st was that of Francisco García Gurrea in 1911) of a youth in confinement: the 22 years, Sangüesa, Esteban Domeño in 1924. Hemingway would pick up the dramatic episode in Fiesta.

After the interruption of the Civil War and World War 2, again at 53 and 59, having received the Nobel Prize at 54. This was decisive for many young English-speaking (U.S., Australian ...), who had read "Fiesta", try to experience what it feels close to a bull.

And a swimming club
Behind the pioneers, the Mill Caparroso
is the August 27, 1931 when a group of friends who used to swim a few meters upstream of Mill Caparroso , decided to regulate this activity and submitted to the Civil Governor of the founding act of Swimming Club .

Of course this is not the first sports association. And since 1918 there was Tennis Club (but the first pool of Tennis is 1950) and the same Osasuna there since 1920.

Nor is the Swimming Club who has the first pool (made in the decade of the 50). Who is the protagonist of the first pool of Navarra is the Club Larrain (I do not know the exact date).

image 56-57: the San Juan and Larrain, the 1 st pool of Navarra
By this I mean that the "Swim Club" was the first swimming club (go truism!) although, of course, bathing in the river Arga.

You always look good in all sports
composer surprising humility. Gone were still the best achievements of Osasuna played for 1 st time in the First Division 1935-35 season Second down immediately. Or wins San Antonio , founded in 55. The domain Navarre on the ball with Retegi I in 69. And to say nothing of the triumphs of Induráin (1991-95).
The Euskal Jai, opened in 1909. Click
Thus, in years 20-30, without triumphalism: "You always look good."

and has now become a large population
this case it is the reporter passed (pun intended) a few people, if it refers to the number inhabitants. In the mid-30's Pamplona had about 35,000 inhabitants, Navarra Spain 300,000 and 25 million.

1929: Mecca, the seminar without, 2 half-widening ... A great people!
As does have reason is that the demolition of the walls allowed the expansion of Pamplona for the first extension (1901) and the 2 nd Widen (1915)

Cube Runner Unblocked Game

"Joaldunak" of Ituren and Zubieta (Navarra)

Update Monday, January 31, 2011: I can not resist hitting the great article from Mark Sanchez in the Diario de Navarra that date:

[Table
She gets very nervous he does the same thing. That when the two walk together down the hallway of the house, he stops at the table one day they gave the lesakarra Juan Carlos Pikabea. "You're back?" She complains every time it happens. And he says nothing, trapped by the table the same way as a prisoner in jail.

His fingers run through different portions of the work, like pretending reproduce the author's brush strokes. She resigned, wait. As buds advance, he utters aloud what they cherish. "The Conical Hat ... ...", begins. "His films ... of many colors! ... ... In sheep's fur to keep warm ...". She waits. His fingers continue. "They tiptoed Petticoats ... ... And the swab ... horsehair."

- Baby, it's getting late, she tells him with a certain weariness.
- Do you hear? "I answered him.
- Honey ...
- The bells.
- Please ...
- Do you hear how they sound in the distance? And starts to shake the ground ...

's patience runs out it always in the same instant. In it. And always reacts the same: you go to the room and left alone in the hall to him, who also always thinks to himself: "Poor thing, he does not understand the pictures angry like me."
She returns.

- Are you blind, ci-e-go, do you remember?! - Yells at him.

And it becomes a go.
He smiles.

(Today at noon, the zanpantzar joaldunak Zubieta and will travel to Ituren Ituren morning to return the visit. Four miles on foot between the two locations, a carnival spectacle to see, hear and, above all, feel)]

... With rhythmic and rhythmic movements, to sound their bells in unison ...
Joaldunak : highlight of the carnival
Ituren and Zubieta, neighboring towns in the region of Malerreka (ta malda erreka : hill and river, at the foot of the imposing riverside Mendaur and Ezkurra), held together a carnival that is undoubtedly unique in the parades of Joaldunak (Joar : cowbell; Joal - in compound words; -dun : suffix indicating possession; -ak : plural:. Literally, "those bells).

The Mendaur from Zubieta (please do click on the image, you're going to move)
this carnival is held on Monday and Tuesday following the last weekend of January. Therefore, this touches 2011 Monday 31 January and Tuesday 1 February . On Monday, around noon, Zubieta joaldunak leave for Ituren (about 3 km.). Are received by the district ittundarra (gentile those Ituren) of Aurtitz and together go to the neighborhood of Latsaga for, after passing over the bridge of Zubiburu, together with those of Ituren. At this point the joint parade of about forty or fifty joaldunak (between eighty and a hundred bells) which, after traveling around the core Ituren terminates at the town square.
day next Tuesday, are those which Ituren return visit to those Zubieta.
joaldunak The parade in two rows, with rhythmic movements and rhythmic, to ring their bells in unison.
Dressing in the attic of the Inn: part of the ritual
Clothing Following
page Ituren City Council, the clothing of joaldun of Ituren consists of the following elements:
 • Ttuntturo or conical cap, approximately half a meter in height, with colored ribbons and crowned with feathers.
 • reddish scarf around his neck.
 • shirt covered with a sheepskin as a great vest.
 • Strip at the waist, which are supported, while hiding the strings that hold the bells.
 • white petticoat on pants that reaches below the knee.
 • Abarka 'rubber shoes', roped over white socks.
 • Two large copper bells (with a capacity of approximately ten liters each) hanging from the waist and two little ones, by way of ornament, at the height of the back.
 • A kind of whip called swab, made with horsehair, subject to the right.
The difference with joaldunak Zubieta is that their clothing does not include fur parka, with two small bells on his shirt which is white and in which the tissue of the neck, blue boxes, is smaller.

An interpretation
What does this ritual?
Given that the most characteristic and oldest of the joaldunak are the bells and the call "Swab" I think the explanation has to be tied to the traditional livelihoods of indigenous peoples: agriculture (broadly defined, including the agro-forestry) and livestock.
one hand, trying to dispel, through the din of the bells, those animals (wolves, bears, birds of prey ...) that could cause damage to livestock (horses, cows, sheep ... and, especially, their young).
On the other hand, that kind of whips, called "swabs" would scare function (whip) the evil spirits, mimicking the action of spreading the holy water (swab) especially forests, meadows, fields, orchards ..

Beyond words Says
page Ituren City Council:

"It should be noted that the implementation of the joaldunak zanpantzar name of Ituren and Zubieta has been made recently (from late 1960) by people totally unrelated to the people of Ituren and Zubieta, as a result of trying to find similarities or parallels the joaldun with other characters in Basque folklore, as Saint Pansard, Olentzero, etc. The name zanpantzar not has a tradition in both countries, who have not known or used another name than joaldun to call their historical character, namely joaldunak of Ituren and Zubieta.

As these peoples
birthplace of Joaldunak (which have recently been extended to other places), it seems most correct to ensure Ituren City Council to keep the original name.
But the council must also show, with much more force, his concern for the use of Joaldunak usually done systematically in some marches and demonstrations, especially independents. In them, unashamedly, is to associate elements of our culture Navarre (Euskera Olentzero Joaldunak ...) with ikurrinas, independence, or claims ETA prisoners of their environment.

Manipulate that something is!

Ituren City Council, is well concerned about the words, by the name of Joaldunak originating in the race of the Ezkurra. But they can not close our eyes to some facts that you must know better than anyone. It would therefore be very welcome to pile on your page any sentence in which to show their revulsion at the hideous use made of a cultural element as old as your and our Joaldunak .

The best video on joaldunak
And as the best preacher is Fr example, I put these images available and Zubieta Ituren recorded around 1970 by Pius Caro Baroja , with texts by his brother in July , images hardly be repeated. They only appear you have to appear, without foreign elements without misuses, with respect y. .. crowds.
These images will be especially emotional for those zubitarras or ittundarras that after 40 years, are able to recognize them.
For example, the data give me your daughter and if I did I was wrong, here Erregerena Lazarus, when I was 15 years in 1970 and now 2011, 56:

Erregerena Lazarus in 1970 with 15 years and in 2011 at 56. As the tango: That 41 years is nothing ...!

In the circle, Ayoroa Simon, born in 38, with 32 years

Enjoy, Therefore, the best video ever made (or may already do) on Joaldunak. And best mode "full screen"

Again we have cited in Las Ramblas, opposite the Plaza de la Boqueria .

The Association of Friends, Veïns i Shopkeepers of the Ramblas in Barcelona, learned two weeks we've been painting in and around the Ramblas and was interested in knowing. Wine represntación Mr Masi in that association. Met in 2010, 50. After polite conversation

Today, that was fine, gray and wet, I felt inspired to get to paint in watercolor, so taking the opportunity to meet with friends of the colla, I made a couple of pictures.
The first one corresponds to the Place de la Boqueria, in front of the famous market of the same name.
front, in the drawing, is this famous building called "House of the Umbrella", whose name was previously "Bruno House, owned manufactured umbrella and became a millionaire by selling them worldwide. As original decorated the house with an umbrella and a huge Chinese dragon to look after everyone told you pass by it.

Phoscao, Cola Cao y. .. Roberto Rizo

The Phoscao
What pronunciábamos "FOSCAO", but knew it was written as "Raphael."
suspected it was older than cao Cola, but never imagined that it was both. The first advertisement that I found the Phoscao has been in "La Vanguardia" of January 30, 1914.

But Phoscao has, as the ad says, his background in Phosphocacao so that in addition to clarify its etymology, we advance the date in the same newspaper from Barcelona to 11/04/1912.

The earliest references I have found in a French newspaper (L'ouest eclair, from 24.01. 10).

This product was a tonic particularly suitable, as I said advertising, for the elderly, sick, weak, exhausted and suffering from stomach: neurasthenic ... And are sold in grocery, drug and curiously drugstores.
in 1964 passed into the hands of Nutrexpa (cao Cola manufacturer), who in later years the Phoscao launches soluble.
I was lucky to stay more or less, with the jingle, a song which I contrasted with others who also remember. As much as I looked on the Web, I found no reference to either the melody or lyrics. This is the letter that I remember (I put in blue questionable parts):

is the powerful phoscao restorative, as the joy and health gives phoscao suddenly take phoscao also breakfast and lunch and take their children and grandchildren are older than Methuselah

The Cola Cao
History:
In 1946 is recorded and goes to market Cola Cao, Nutrexpa flagship product.
In 1955 ( note below) is created the "Song of the Negro", which will become a classic advertising in Spain, as brand Cola Cao was the sponsor of a radio serial broadcast in Spain by Cadena Ser between 1955 and 1971: "Matilde, Perico and Periquín."
The original title of the song of Cola Cao is, according to SGAE, "That black" and the alternative displayed on the image. It also appears the operator: Aurelio Jordi Dotras (1932-2004), but not the interpreter, whose name does appear in the National Library: Curl Roberto Abad.

I do not know who the primary responsibility having written the first name of Roberto Rizo Abad with two z's, but as some pages copied to others, the error is so widespread that there is no entry on the Internet (except this one) with the real name of this interpreter composer. Someone complains that he does not get data. No wonder: the double zeta appears only as a performer of "One black man." And yet, in the SGAE and the NBS have enough records. But we'll leave for the end of this post.
back to "One bold", there is no problem to find the famous song. I found many videos and I think the best is this:

But a few years after "One Negro" in 1961, the NBS meeting reviewed a "Chachachá" titled "The Cola-cao". Confirmed by a review of the SGAE. It is authored by a score ... Roberto Rizo Abad! And I suspect it has to be the song that I remember (and I have not found references on the Internet):

This would be more or less , the letter
"The Cola Cao is king, there can be another like it, have a taste of honey, a food unparalleled. The chocolate milk earned the reputation it has today, so the Cola Cao conquered the world. The kids ask cries. Mothers always buy Cola Cao. In every household in the land is taken the famous Cola Cao "

Abad Roberto Rizo
even as a small recognition Roberto Rizo and that is not only known as a performer of "One bold", serve these reviews taken from the National Library which is clear in his dual role interpreter and composer. And even the creator of a literary argument cinema.

Originally the Theatre Santa Creu , was restored in 1847, in response to the birth of the Gran Teatro del Liceo. It is the building seen to the right of the watercolor on the same Theatre Square, where stands the monument to Pitarra (left).
A brutal competition was created between the "Crusade" and "high school students", which was lampooned by Pitarra confrontation into a work of theater. Won the Catalan bourgeoisie against the aristocracy and caused the decline of the Teatro Principal, which is also called Catalan theater.

I have started to paint in the center, slightly tilted to the Ramblas and backlit in this wonderful morning, with his ambientillo, the Main Theatre, Columbus in background at left, the Theatre Square.

How Long For Fish Oil To Work

"Mended" and "Paloma the pigeon "Song

Last time: I just learned of the death yesterday (1/10/1911) in Buenos Aires Maria Elena Walsh who with fellow Leda Valladares formed in the mid-50's duet "Leda and Mary", discussed in this post. Thanks for so many songs, so many books and, especially, for "El Brujo's Gulubú ."
... up the mountain, air-air

was at a party of Carballeda , probably mid 90's. I was visiting the different positions of the fair: animals, products of the region ... And suddenly sounded a bagpipe. That simple melody, but so evocative, had the power to awaken the child in me still carrying. With misty eyes I was humming to myself the letter that as a kid I learned:

" I have three kid, re patched row
I have three little goats, remittances re patched,
up the mountain, re mended remedy,
up the mountain, air-air "

was the bagpipe You Francisco , Val de Santa María.

It is said online is the full letter:

Mended (Dove or pigeon)

Pigeon loft that love you will find.

I have three little goats, remittances re patched,
I have three little goats, remittances re patched,
up the mountain, paddle re
patched up the mountain, air-air .

One gives me milk, re patched row,
one gives me milk, re patched row,
other gives me the wool, re patched row,
other gives me wool , air-air.

Another gives me butter, paddle re patched,
other gives me butter, paddle re patched,
p'a all week, re patched row,
p'a all week, air and air.

Pigeon loft that love you will find.

I have to say that in my memory at least, does not fit this "Pigeon loft that you will find love."
Asturias, a beautiful land and brave

Where did this song come out? Seems to be very old. I read somewhere that it might be of medieval origin. Of course, anonymous. Most agree that his crib is Asturias.
But there is the curious case that jumping El Charco, has taken root so well in those countries that some consider popular song Chilean or Argentine folklore ...

What does the National Library? Not boring I will mention only the oldest record:
The first review is 1930 and who produces the sound recording is Eduardo Martínez Torner , musicologist and composer, in Asturias. His most famous work, the Cancionero Musical Popular Lyric Asturiana, published in 1920 a total of five hundred tunes. Five years later announced the release of the second part, with a thousand topics that you never see the light and that his biographers considered lost. In this review appears and the title of "Pigeon loft" and is listed as "Asturian song." Menendez is interpreted by Faustina, daughter of Asturias tune interpreter also José Menéndez Carreño (Cuchichi) .
The second is from 1939 and is published in Mexico. This is a "English Cancionero popular musical. Printed Text: love songs, bucolic, round, pastoral, children, humorous, sailors, threshing, dancing, mountain, christmas, swing, hay, nursery and religious ". And Asturias include these: "You come to me," If the snow slide, " pigeon loft "and" This street is a garden. "
The third reference is from 1942: a score of Rafael Benedito where is again listed as Asturian song. (Score that you attached to the plugged in case anyone is encouraged to sing in four parts)

Basten, then, these three exhibitions to remove any doubt about the origin of the song astur us.

Victor Jara and "Quilapayún"
However, in years 75 and 79, none other than the Chilean group Quilapayún made two recordings of "Pigeon loft" in which, while claiming that it is "the anonymous English XIV" (again says the XVI), is part of an album titled "Song of Andean peoples." Hence, for the misunderstanding.

Argentine duo also " Leda and Maria " popularized "Mended" for those lands in a disk of 1958.

In this video we hear "Mended" performed by Quilapayún and Victor Jara in a recording of 1967. Next is Argentina's version of "Leda and Mary."

I have not got the Asturian version (I expect to soon), but the accompanying video images, imbued with the vibrant "Asturianía" beating hard on them, they want to fill the gap and also serve as a tribute to ; the land, beautiful and brave, he sang for the first time "Mended" or "pigeon Dove"

MIQUEL PANTALEON

These days I could not get off to Barcelona and so I have not submitted any paintings on this blog, I used to do another portrait.

Women In Red Dress Painting

Asturian song lyric: a gift from Joaquín Reyes

On December 24 AGAO (Gayarre Association of Friends of the Opera) out again through the streets of Pamplona to bring opera music to the locals who had the privilege of being there. The video, constructed from the recorded images, is wonderful and you can see it in the "full screen".
After him you have a list of all the songs (of course, are fragments), seven in total, with brief information about the work to which he belongs and another link to a full interpretation.

Gift Contribution Letter

A GREAT FRIEND THE END OF 2010 AND THE BEGINNING OF 2011

I show my latest drawing of last year and this first.

This watercolor drawing corresponds to the early hours of 2011.
Therefore, my first drawing of the year.
roll While watching the TV and the fireplace on, I decided to do this little drawing with pen and black ink, I left some white and then with Tombow watercolor pens to fill them with colors of fire, mixed with some black.
not dislike me!
-
-
Previously, before midnight, and cenados and waiting for the new year, I did this one drawing, where I highlighted the fireplace and I also point out the fire with watercolor markers.
It was what inspired me to then do the above.
